Cryptographic Security

Cryptographic security is a system of cryptographic methods and means which are implemented with the aim of protecting classified information from unauthorized access during its origination, processing, storage and transmission.

The terms and conditions for the use, production and import of cryptographic methods and means for the protection of classified information are regulated by the Regulations on the Cryptographic Security of the Classified Information.

Cryptographic Security Authority (CSA) of the Republic of Bulgaria as per the Regulations on the Cryptographic Security of the Classified Information is the State Agency for National Security (SANS).

According to the CIPA and the Regulations on the Cryptographic Security of the Classified Information SCIS exercises overall guidance and control over the activities on the cryptographic security of the classified information.

Cryptographic means and materials for classified information protection, as well as the key materials are marked, stored, documented, archived and destroyed according to the Regulation for the cryptographic security of classified information.

In the case of suspicion of compromise or of compromise of cryptographic security CSA prepares written opinion which for the purposes of the overall control is sent to SCIS. If the compromise of cryptographic security has an impact on cryptographic networks where information of other states or international organizations is processed they will be informed in accordance with the bilateral security agreements.
