Signing of an Agreement on the protection of the classified information between the Government of the Republic of Bulgaria and the Government of the State of Israel/Israeli Ministry of Defence

On 27 November 2008 in Sofia a ceremony on the signing of an Agreement on the protection of the classified information between the Government of the Republic of Bulgaria and the Government of the State of Israel/Israeli Ministry of Defence was conducted.

The Agreement is a result of direct negotiations between Bulgarian and Israeli experts that were held in June 2008. On Bulgarian side in the negotiations participated representatives of the State Commission on Information Security and of the State Agency “National Security”.

The Agreement establishes the legal framework of the cooperation between the two states in the field of classified information protection and creates conditions for effective interaction between them in different fields of public life by guaranteeing effective protection of the exchanged classified information.

The Agreement is approved with Decision № 36 of 19 September of the Council of ministers of the Republic of Bulgaria.
On behalf of the Government of the Republic of Bulgaria the Agreement was signed by Mrs. Tsveta Markova, Chairperson of the State Commission on Information Security, and on Israeli side the agreement was signed by Mr. Amir Kain- director on the security of information, Defence Security Directorate, Ministry of Defence.
