Presentation of the Annual report on the overall status on the protection of classified information in the Republic of Bulgaria for 2010 by the State Commission on Information Security

On 6 April 2011 in the premises of the State Commission on Information Security the Annual report on the overall status on the protection of classified information in the Republic of Bulgaria for 2010 was presented.

During the presentation of the Annual report attended representatives of the executive power, the judicial power, the diplomatic missions of the NATO and EU countries, military attaches, the security services and the public order services.

The Chairperson of the SCIS introduced the participants to the overall activity of the Commission in 2010, connected with the issued personnel security clearances for the period 2003-2010 and for 2010 to security officers and other individuals.

The issued NATO and EU personnel security clearance certificates for the period 2003 and 2010 were also taken into consideration. An accent was put on the pursuit of the SCIS and the State Agency for National Security for decreasing the total number of issued certificates, as well as the number of the certificates with the highest classification levels – COSMIC TOP SECRET and EU TOP SECRET.

Mrs. Tsveta Markova presented the activity in 2010 regarding to the physical security and the issued unique identification numbers to the registries for national and foreign classified information. Data was disclosed on the issued facility security clearance certificates to legal entities.

The presentation of the Annual report also included the international activities of the SCIS, as well as the international legal framework. The attendees were acquainted with the signed on behalf of the SCIS international agreements on exchange and protection of classified information, as well as with those entered into force in 2010.

Mrs. Markova emphasized that in 2010 joint efforts were put in the fulfillment of NATO/EU requirements, connected to the establishment and the functioning of protected CIS, as well as in the acceleration of the procedures for accreditation and certification of AIS/N.

During the presentation conclusions were drawn with regard to the effective execution and performing of the policy of the Republic of Bulgaria on the protection of classified information, in close cooperation with the security and public order services. The directions of priority for the development of the National system for the protection of classified information in 2011 were outlined.
