On 18 November 2009 in Sofia the Chairperson of the State Commission on Infromation Security Mrs. Tsveta Markova had a working meeting with the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany Mr. Matias Hyopfner.

During the meeting the activity of the State Commission on Information Security as a National Security Authority was discussed. The issue on the possible opening of a negotiation procedure on the review of the current Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Bulgaria and the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany on the mutual protection of secret information was also discussed as well as the possibility for signing a new one.

Mrs. Markova informed the Ambassador that on behalf of the Republic of Bulgaria by diplomatic means a draft agreement on the exchange and mutual protection of classified information has been delivered to the German side and that we expect notes. She emphasized that the necessity of reviewing the current agreement is provoked by the fact that it was concluded before the new legal framework in the field of classified information protection had entered into force and in this sense it requires actualization.

Mr. Hyopfner expressed the interest of the German side in this procedure and took on the engagement to research on the possibilities for its acceleration.

The important role of such type of Agreements was stressed as they establish the legal framework for exchange and mutual protection of classified information necessary in the cooperation process in different areas of public life.

Both parties confirmed their readiness for continuation of the established good cooperation.

The meeting took place at the building of the SCIS and was conducted in a working atmosphere.
